Each company page in Discourse has an Attention panel. It shows how much the public is looking at the company right now, measured two ways. Each measure is compared with the company's own past, never with other companies.
Wikipedia views
- **Views a day.** The average daily views of the company's English Wikipedia article over the last seven days. Only people count; Wikimedia filters out known bots.
- **Higher than N% of weeks.** Where this week sits among every seven-day stretch since January 2023. Above 90% is unusual attention, in coral. Below 10% is unusually quiet.
- **Against its prior year.** This week's average compared with the average of the 365 days before it.
- **The line.** Weekly average views over the last two years. The coral dot is the latest week.
Palanor matches each company to its article through Wikidata, using its SEC CIK or its stock ticker. About 500 of the S&P 500 have an article of their own. A few don't; their panel shows only what else is available.
Google search interest
For the 100 largest S&P 500 companies by market cap, the panel also shows US Google search interest in the company as a Google topic. A topic counts searches that mean the company, so "Apple" the company is not mixed up with the fruit. Google scales each company's series so its busiest week in five years is 100. The percentile compares this week with every week in those five years. The series refreshes weekly.
Reading it
- A spike is usually one event: earnings, a product launch, a deal, a recall, a lawsuit.
- A level that stays high for months is a lasting shift in attention.
- Attention says people are looking. It does not say whether the news is good or bad.
The market-wide read
The signal S&P 500 Wikipedia Attention (attention.sp500.wikipedia_median) follows the median company. It takes each company's share of all English Wikipedia views over the last week and compares it with that company's own prior year. 100 means usual attention. It dips over the holidays and rises when the market is in the news. You can add it to a watchlist or a scenario.
In the API and MCP
Wikipedia views for any tracked company are at /v1/company-attention in the API and palanor_company_attention in the MCP. Pass a ticker or a CIK. Each response includes the full daily series and the same statistics as the panel. Google search interest is shown in the product only; its terms don't allow redistribution.
